This material, which was presented in March 2006 at the Best Practices Workshop on Personnel Management, is intended to provide the education administrator and human resource director with a general understanding of the law in New Hampshire as it pertains to the employer’s duty of care in giving and verifying references. The goal of this material is three fold: 1) To assist the administrator in understanding the law; 2) To educate the administrator in how to give and obtain a sound reference; and, 3) To assist the administrator in understanding the ‘Best Practices’ in this area of their vocation.
